Blackneedle's Kombi Panel van aka "Tank" |
1978 Kombi Panel Van "Tank"... Began it's life as a mobile mechanical repair van for Hyster, a specialty workshop concentrating on forklift repairs and service. Owned by a family member then, the Tank was retired after only 10 years of service and remained in storage until it's new lease on life about 3 years ago. This being the case the body was in extremely good condition with minimal body work needed before the Sunlight Silver paint-work was applied. Fully restored the Kombi was given a set of four wheel disc brakes with Subaru stud pattern allowing for Konig 20" wheels, CBB Custom adjustable front beam, newly reconditioned 2L Motor with mild head porting & twin carbs and many numerous mods. |
Interior design and creation... Being our own project car we naturally had no limits when it came to trim scheme, so we went straight to work coming up with yet another different original trim design that would give that wow factor! As this was to be a company promo vehicle we wanted the trim to stand out, the silver skin and clean lines of the panel van work well with the bright contrasting colour combination of the metallic blue vinyl and perforated orange leather, it has given us the exact look we desired. We envisioned a modern theme with a retro twist. Where did i get my inspiration? Well who knows but I was always a fan of the classic 60's TV series lost in space, the Robinson family with the Robot and Dr Smith! Now just imagine yourself amongst the characters and Don't forget the Technicolour space outfits and the family's space ship the Jupiter II, If I've lost you, sorry, this is for the Baby Boomers, way before you X & Y's. If you have half an idea of what I'm talking about you may just well appreciate our tank in a slightly different light |
